cleaning

Michael and I just spend about four hours cleaning our old place. Why does it always take forever to clean a place that you just moved out of? I thought that I had cleaned enough before we moved, so that it would not take that long this time. It is crazy how much pet hair was everywhere. We had a month to clean the old place after we moved all of our stuff out of it, but of course we waited until the last moment. The keys have to be turned in tomorrow. It is just hard to go back to the old place and clean when there is so much to be done at the new house.
An update on my bug bite. . . it is doing so much better. I am still on antibiotics and it is still pretty big and red, but there is no more swelling and it doesn't hurt anymore.
Also the weather here is amazing. It is cloudy and stormy!

I HATE BUGS!

Three days ago I noticed a bug bite on my left lower arm. I didn't think anything of it. Yesterday it was super itchy. Today I woke up with a fever and the bug bite was much bigger. I went to work and it kept getting worse. The reddness was about as big as a golf ball, swollen, and hot. My work sent me home. I just came back from urgent care, with a percription for antibotics. There was an absess being created and if I didn't get the antibotics they would have had to cut out all the dead tissue. I should be fine in 10 days. When I got to Urgent Care I felt stupid for going there with just a bug bite when there are people there with major problems, but I am glad that I spent the time to go.

Trying to save some money.

I have been trying to find easy ways to save some money on day to day items. Recently I made my own laundry soap (it turned out really well) and now I have made my own dryer sheets. It is so easy I can't imagine buying the expensive stuff again. This is where I found the recipe and it is a great website that I will use a lot in the future . . . http://tipnut.com/frugral-fabric-softener-recipes-dryer-sheet-tips/

To make homemade dryer sheets you need fabric softener, so I just made my own.

Get a bowl at least twice the size of the amount you are going to make because the ingredients fizzle up. I also put it in the sink just in case.

Put one part baking soda and two parts hot water into the bowl and mix. Add one part vinegar (this is when it fizzles). This makes the fabric softener. I put it in an old Powerade bottle.

*Tip- shake the mixture everytime before you use it, the baking soda settles on the bottom

Now I found an old flannel pillow case, you can use any old flannel whatever. Cut it into about 3" by 5" squares. I use a index card for reference.

Put the squares in a container. Mix 4 tablespoons of fabric softener and 10 tablespoons of water and pour it over the squares. Let this sit for a couple of days.

Put one square in per load.

Next I am going to try dishwasher soap. In the long run I will be saving a lot of money and it doesn't change my lifestyle all that much. I highly recommend it.

The joys of owning a house just keep coming

Today Michael and I were watching a movie (Soylent Green (good movie)) and then the power went out for half of our house. I did the little I knew what to do and then I called my dad. I am so thankful to have someone with so much knowledge just a call away. After a phone call the power magically came back on. I never knew what was wrong, but we did get through another small house crisis unscratched.

Moving day and joys of owning a house.

Moving day was on Sunday

The moving van fit perfect in the drive way.

I am going to miss this house very much. It was the first house Michael and I lived in and even though we didn't own it, it felt like ours.

This is our new hood.
We live on the corner of 29th St and 29th Pl.

Oh the joys of being a homeowner. We pulled weeds all morning on the second day of living there.

We ended up filling 6 of those bags.

Simon helped too.

Burton Family Reunion

Michael's family had a family reunion in Prescott before we moved. We went up to Prescott for three days. The first day the boys golfed while the girls went to lunch and shopping. The next day we all went to Watson Lake for a picnic and some games. We had a lot of fun until that night Michael got food poisoning. I feel really bad because I think that it might have been from my deviled eggs. Oops, well it won't be a true picnic without a little food poisoning, right? Here are some pictures of before the food poisoning.

POTATOE SACK RACING!

Some needed a little help

If you don't understand the reaction. Michael (black shirt) just exploded a water balloon down Zach's (green shirt) back.

It is all fun until. . .

somebody gets wet.

Simon loves Michael!

Every couple had to come up with a game for the kids. I think Paul and Allyson cheated because they bribed the kids. Their game was throwing darts at balloons and the balloons were filled with money and candy. :)

Yay for family reunions!

We made it!

We just got the internet put in our new house, so there will be tons of things to blog about that I haven't yet. Sunday was our big move. Everything went so smoothly it was unbelievable. Thank you so much to the people that helped us move in, we couldn't have done it without you! Since than I have been busy with unpacking. There is still so much to do and I go back to work tomorrow. Today I made my own laundry soap (thanks Allyson for the recipe) and I am planning on becoming more of a homemaker now that I have my own house. If anyone has recipes or ideas on how to make my own cleaning stuff for the house or bar soap or anything else along those lines let me know.

Our First Home!

We just bought our first home.

This is where we had to sign the paper work.

New to the blog scene.

I don't think our life is always that interesting enough to have a blog, so I have never done it before. But occasionally we do go on trips and we just bought our first house. Hope our life is exciting enough for the people who read this. Enjoy!
