Basketball and school

Here are a few pictures from last Thursday's game. This is the first time Michael has played in two weeks. Last week he was really sick and the week before that the captain of the team broke his leg, so there was no game.

The team that they played was really good. We lost in the end, but it is still really fun to watch.

On another note, I started school today. I am only taking Writing 102. By the sound of it there is going to be a ton of homework. It is a good thing that I don't have more classes, with this class and my full time job I will be pretty busy.

I am going to Pima Community College East Campus. It is a really pretty campus.

The Star Garden

I just finished The Star Garden by Nancy Turner. It's hard to decide what to write about this book.  This is the last of the trilogy, These is My Words.  The books go through a time I had little thought about before.  It is the day to day struggles of life in the early 1900's and it sucks you in.  I couldn't stop reading these books and I couldn't help but feel like they were people I knew, my family.

Method

Michael's older brother, Joseph and his wife, Rachelle own a coffee shop in Prescott.  It has amazing coffee; I especially love their cold brew.  I am pleased to see that their coffee shop, Method got some press in the local newspaper. Press HERE for the link.

Sarah's Quilt

I just finished Sarah's Quilt by Nancy Turner yesterday.  It is the second book in the These is My Words trilogy.  I have to admit that I sobbed a lot reading both of them and I am sure once the third book arrives (I ordered it on Amazon) I will sob with that one also.  I really enjoy these books.  The books take place mostly in Tucson and the Tucson area around 1906. It is really interesting to understand Tucson a little better. I would recommend this book, but be prepared to cry.

The Cove

I just saw a preview to the movie The Cove. It is hard to watch, but I think it is very important to be aware of.

You should hear this.

Check this band out. They are a Swedish swing hip-hop jazz group. I think you will like it. :)

Michael's Basketball League and other stuff

Michael just joined a city basketball league with some people from his work.  They have a game every Thursday.  Michael is #14.  It is really great to get to see Michael playing basketball.  Michael had played basketball all his life up to high school, but I met him after high school so I never saw him play a game.

Unfortunately they lost by a few points, but we'll get them next game.

This is my handsome husband and our adorable dog.

These are some pictures of way back when I had the really bad bug bite and went to urgent care.

We had an adventure last night.

Last night was Michael's first night for city league basketball.  (I will post pictures later on it.)   The game was at a YMCA downtown Tucson.  If you have ever been to downtown Tucson you know that there is basically only parking garage to park in. We got there a little after 8:30pm.  By the time the game was over, we walked to the garage and relized it was closed.  The bad news is both of us forgot our phones.  We had a few dollars luckly with us so we walked to the bus station about a mile away.  While waiting at the bus station a guy asked us for a dollar.  We asked him how much the bus was which he replied $1. Since we had $3, we gave him the dollar. When the bus finally came the bus driver said that the fare is $1.25, so we had to beg someone for 50 cents. Finally we get to the nearest bus stop to our house, but we still had to walk about a mile again.  By the time we got home it was 11:30pm and I had to work at 6am.  Luckily when I got to work today my boss told me it was really slow today and that she would give me a vacation day to go get my car.  I am on my way now to go get it.  Everyone cross your fingers that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get my car back.

I thought this was funny.

I thought this was funny. <-------- Click right here

A little frustrated.

I would just like to vent for a moment. I have moved around a lot in the past seven years, so I have gone to many colleges (four to be exact). I haven't ever been too concerned because I always transfer my credits. I was always a little bummed when I would try to transfer a class and the college wouldn't except it, but what do you do. Right now I want to try to get an Associates of General Studies, so I went to Pima Community College today. The advisor tells me that I have every class for this degree except one. I thought well this is cool, then she tells me that I also need to have 15 credits from Pima for that degree. So even though I have 75 transfer credits they don't add up to anything until I retake 15 credits at Pima. The lesson of the day is never go to more than one college, you will always have to do at least one class twice.
